EDITOR'S DESK

It is a good time to capitalise on an over-riding sentiment. The decision of the government to constitute a Group of Ministers (GoM) to examine the existing legal and institutional frameworks for dealing with matters of sexual harassment of women at the workplace is welcome and in tune with the times.
The move assumes significance, particularly in light of the fact that former journalist and junior foreign minister MJ Akbar was forced to quit the government in the face of allegations made against him by various young journalists dating back to the time when he was an Editor.
In Chennai, singer Chinmayi has laid a sexual harassment complaint against the famous Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu who has a strong link to the DMK party in the state. He was a close friend of former chief minister and DMK supremo M. Karunanidhi, who died on 7 August in Chennai this year aged 92.
